Caira
Jean chose me as an 8 week old puppy, but it took Cheryl a little longer to figure that one out. She finally agreed to let
Caira Jean come be "socialized" with me for a "little while". Caira arrived when she was about 5 months old and well that "little
while" has now lasted over 9 years.
Caira
Jean was my first show dog and with her I learned the first of many lessons with showing. Caira loved to be in the ring and being
fussed over. She was always patient with me as I awkwardly tried to stack her, gait her and figure out that whole "reserve
winner" thing. I will forever be thankful that Caira was with me for so many firsts.
So
where's the titles? Well there aren't any. Despite Caira's love for the ring and promise she showed as a puppy she just didn't
measure up to the breed standard. That was another big lesson Caira taught me. Not all dogs will be great outstanding show
dogs. Was I disappointed? Heck no. I still had a wonderful companion that made me laugh everyday with her silly antics.
What
about performance? Well....hmmmm. Caira lives by her own rules and yes she is trained per say. She knows all the commands,
just one problem...Caira had little interest in doing performance work. She much rather go socialize and be told how pretty
she is. Now mind you I am not one that easily gives up with training. Many of my friends call me obsessive. But Caira and
I called a truce for this girl was as stubborn as I. I finally came to the realization that...she doesn't like obedience,
and she is never going to perform to the standard I want.
So
from that point on Caira Jean's only duties included being the queen of the household. Caira still resides in my parent's
household in Wisconsin and remains quite content on being the "bosca".
