Phoebe is one of those fields who
is un-like the others. Her calm demeanor and quiet nature causes people to refer to her as "the good girl". Phoebe
has always made people aware of when she is present. Whether she is hamming up for the crowd while in the obedience ring or
simply lounging around she is truly a special girl.
Despite Phoebe's many clever antics in the
obedience ring she managed to pick up a few
titles over the years. She earned multiple
placements in both novice and the open
classes. At 7 years of age she acquired both the RN and RA
in consecutive shows with all the scores being in the 90's.
People often asked why Phoebe was never
bred. Obviously, she was a beautiful girl
with a great attitude and I for one would of
LOVED to of had a puppy from her. However,
there were too many factors stacked against
us. First of all, Phoebe had a titled cervix
which made a natural breeding impossible. We
then attempted 2 AI's - which both failed.
At the age of 3 Phoebe had a cancerous
mammary tumor removed. The vets said it
wasn't likely to spread as the tumor was
well contained. Unfortunately, Phoebe
developed over a dozen more mammary tumors
over the next 6 months. After consulting
with specialists it was determined that she
needed not only to be spayed but to have a
radical mastectomy as well. Several thousand
dollars later and after a few months to
recover Phoebe was once again a healthy
girl. The cancer and the reproductive issues
Phoebe had were not really the fault of
anyone. Sometimes the cards are simply not
in your favor. Phoebe was worth every single
penny and is currently a VERY active and
healthy 13 year old gal!
Phoebe is currently in retirement and there are no current plans to take her back in the ring. She has been enjoying going out on
the occasional track, or showing Paige up with her whirlwind finishes.
Phoebe's
primary job lately has been being the
princess and her Dad Jay is of course
"HERS". She loves to accompany Jay to work
and sits in on the business meeting.
Although occasionally she finds the meeting
quite drab and will fall asleep and snore
loudly. Nothing makes Phoebe happier than
just being part of the family and hanging
out at all the dog events. We continue to
feel blessed that we have this wonderful gal
who makes us smile each and every day.
